Although I haven’t read the book, I thought I’d show you my version of 50 shades of grey – 50 shades of grey paint 🙂 Grey rooms can fit into any style: romantic, minimalist, modern, traditional, sophisticated and rustic. Grey, though, can be a tricky hue to get right as it can be tinged with different hues.
There are cool greys, which are mixed with blue, that read more of a more slate-grey, and warm greys, which are mixed with yellow, that read more of a mushroom-grey. From the pictures below, you will see examples of each, which may help you in determining your preference.
I love this one!! I’ve pushed back on sunburst mirrors because I thought they were too much of a fad/ too “typical” (count the number of pictures here that have them) and I’d seen them too much, but this picture may make me rethink my stance on them.
Another sunburst mirror…
While very pretty, this room needs some softening as it is sooooo much metal.
This room is great and looks like a large loft as per the painted pipes. The aged mirror add to the ambiance, but I wish we could see the chandelier better. From the drop crystal balls, it would seem that gauzy drapes would compliment it nicely.
A small version of a sunburst mirror…
Yet another sunburst mirror – it’s frequently a go-to wall filler…but do you see what I’m saying about too typical? Maybe it’s just something designers overuse or it’s in magazines too often, I’m not sure which.
So there you have my version of “50 Shades of Grey” 🙂 Maybe not as steamy, but romantic nonetheless.
And for me, I need it. My children are snuggle bunnies and prefer to sleep with us; I relented over the summer and let the children sleep with us if they wanted. Well, of course they wanted…every night! I told them it would end once school started. School started a month ago. Can you guess how this has played out? And to compound matters, do you know where at least one dog will squeeze in at night? 🙂
Your 50 shades of grey are so much better than the book! 🙂
Stunning images! I adore shades of grey….

I love grey walls. The bathroom with the mirror-like tile is pretty spectacular!
how the other half live – fabulous blog post.
i love the antler lighting feature, the roon you commented needed softening I actually think would work quite well as an older teenage boys room if you were trying to keep it in fitting with the rest of the house
Fabulous.
Thanks!
Somehow never thought of grey as an exciting color – you prove me wrong : )
It does seem like a drab color, but done right it looks good 🙂 I’m glad you liked them 🙂
Yes, gotta love grey! Impressed with your extensive photo- finding!
Thank you! I can’t tell you how many darn times I counted to make sure I had 50!!
I am definitely a slate grey gal. I have wanted to do grey walls for a long time, but can’t figure out where and while I would love it in the kitchen, I think I’ll do the bedroom and do a punch of the bight yellow – I LOVED that!
Oh, I hope you post pics on your blog if you decide to do it! I’d love to see it!!
I really liked this post! As for the book save yourself the agony. Plot holes, repetitive grammar, if I see the words Inner Goddess anywhere I’ll be committed…a comic book is more thrilling.
Lol!! Don’t worry, I have no intention of reading it!! The author did herself in by going on a press junket; she was SO painful to watch!
The images are more entertaining than the book… At least I could see the different shades of grey from the images which is more than I could say for the book.
NICE!!!
Our bedroom has a dark grey (similar to the first pic) accent wall and the rest are white. We are going to add black and white pictures of the family throughout. Should be pretty.
I love the grey/gray with the pops of jewel tones or metallics:) Have a Great Day!
Great post and lovely grey rooms! We put a few different shades of grey in our new home and they are very cozy!
I didn’t know where you were going with the title of this post 🙂
You always make me laugh/giggle!!
Loving greys right now! Doing a whole house with grays so there is consistency and also the ability to add different pops of colors in different rooms. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love grey in interiors, there’s something so sophisticated about it! Great post! X
I just want to sink into that first bath – love that room!
Reblogged this on Bedding and Bath Towel Linen Information and commented:
Wow! So many ideas using the color grey.
Could you just humor me and mark them cool and warm…Sometimes I’m not sure…
Great pix – love your research. I think many bloggers have utilised that heading. I did one entitled “fifty shades of grey in the garden” a couple of months ago.

I must have looked at a hundred grays before staking out a home in town in the perfect shade…the kind gentleman wrote down the “city scape” Benjamin Moore
Color for our new victorian at the lake.
I don’t think people understand how difficult of a shade it is to get right…until you want to choose it for yourself! Getting to know a good paint professional is the best thing any homeowner can do 😉 Mine’s seen me through two pregnancies 🙂 and I bet grey would look so great at a house on a lake because it isn’t intrusive to the surroundings…
I am definitely a “Warm Grey” girl, but our new highrise condo is in the cool category. Eventual paint job in my future? I think so! Thanks for all of the “greyyyt” ideas! 😀
So cute!! Good to hear from you!! You’ve been missing for a while!! I want to repaint 2 rooms …and grey is the front runner for one! I’m so indecisive though when it comes to my own house!!
It has been a very busy time with the move and all of the nonprofit work I have been doing. Hopefully more time to blog and follow great blogs soon!
I love the rooms with greys complemented by peach or pink, and I’m thinking kitchen. An added plus is that grey hides fingerprints and writing on the wall much better than white 😉
I love grey with pink accents too! I have sooooo much painting to do – with one child, you can keep an eye on them, 2? Forget it! Crayon and marker hieroglyphics!! Plus, changing the color of two rooms – maybe grey?? I’m tired thinking about all the painting I have to do
For my house I would consider the powder room with sparkle tiled wall and Bianco Carrara on the floor. With any shades of grey, I would add a vibrant color as a punch to revive the dullness of this colors.
I am getting ready to redo the bedroom and was thinking about doing some grey…these are amazing rooms!
Beautiful rooms. Very inspiring but I just can not use grey. I have had a can of good qaulity grey paint that my parents gave me a year ago just sitting around. I can’t use it. Just can’t. I need warm colors. I even thought about putting it in the kitchen which gets the most sun but I love my yellow!
I realized there is only one cool colored room, our guest room, which is a pale grey-blue, in our whole house!! So, I need to mix it up and I’m looking hard at two rooms on our first floor! But I’m with you on yellow; our kitchen, foyer and upstairs hallway are all a soft, buttery yellow and I just love it!! Those aren’t changing 😉
Maybe a closet? I do need to paint the inside of my closets. I guess normally they are the same color as the room though.
You could do a closet! I showed a blue room with a green closet in one of my posts for boys rooms and I love it!! It’s just so unexpected! Grey won’t pop as much, but with all your yellow, it would probably be a great foil!
Gray is not my thing, but I absolutely adored that 2nd photo. It’s the blue that is brought in that does it for me. And I just love that fun white chandelier, and am a huge fan of curved doorways. Delightful chairs as well. I want that room!!
