Our children’s rooms have gotten more time and attention architecturally and design-wise than our master bedroom, so this post is self-serving, because I would like to address our room at some point. Our foyer is next on my list, followed by adding crown and ceiling molding in several rooms and creating a playroom for the girls. I like to mull projects over and research them extensively.
So let the mulling begin:
A dramatic bedroom of red, black and white…and pink (?), which I would lose. I like just the 3 colors better for drama.
Using a massive piece of art as a headboard. The celadon green is accented with raspberry touches.
The serene color scheme of spa blue, white and tan – no bright colors to jar (or invigorate) – indicate this is a room to calm and relax.
Another example – and maybe a better example because of the the lack of pattern – of a calming room.
The velvet ottomans in the form of a trefoil, a shape used in Gothic architecture, and the distinctive headboard take center stage by keeping the room monochromatic.
When the room is as interesting architecturally as this, you don’t need anything else.
This room feels like spring with the floral fabric and greens.
A large, antique mantle mirror, which is scaled for a large home, but is re-purposed into a headboard. You can see how incredibly large it is, as it goes from the floor to the ceiling. I’d love to see the home from which it came.
Like the canopy that I showed yesterday, a brick wall, especially this one where the bed is aligned with the arch in bricks, can be romantic with white and soft textures.
Tiffany-box blue makes for a splendid wall color!!
For those who want a little color in their bedroom.
The blue, the drapes and the molding is making me swoon! Not making me swoon? the lamps the headboard that are too short and stubby. Taller lamps and headboard would have been nicer in my opinion.
Parisian bedroom with gold finishes.
When space is limited, mirroring doors is a good way to give the illusion of more space and reflect light.
This room emits an old Hollywood feel with the mirrored furniture and silky bedding.
Masculine, but stately with crisp white bedding and blue trim, a tufted velvet bench at the base adorned with luxurious pillows and dimensional artwork. There’s a trick that is used on the night side table that I currently use in my house; if the height of your lamps need to be raised a little, place them on books.
I’m headed outside to plant roses with my little one. She just adores flowers and was oohing and aahing so much when we went to the nursery, people would turn around and chuckle – even I was delighted and highly amused by her reaction! We selected a bunch of Carpet Roses to plant:
I could never have enough flowers and love to spend time outside with my girls. Thanks for looking and I hope you have a great day!

Beautiful pictures. I love them all but the one with the huge mirror as the headboard is great!
Cynthia
Especially love the rooms that celebrate the architecture. 🙂
And flowers+wee ones=joy
Nature is so fun for them to explore and to watch them delight in every worm, snail, bird’s nest, etc…joy is a great word for it!!
Wow! These are beautiful! Our master bedroom is the smallest room in the house. Needless to say, we haven’t even touched ours yet. We are currently working on the guest bedroom. After we complete that one (within the next two months), we’ll start on ours.
I like the dark of the last bedroom. The first picture is broke on mine though 😦 I’ll try it through firefox or (crosses fingers to ward off evil) IE
I’m drawn to that brick one. The two lamps and the arch are perfectly placed and I keep scrolling towards it. I think that one is romantic like you said but it’s girly with the fabrics and manly with the brick. That would be a nice combo in our home.
I love your site – so inspirational. Makes me want to tidy up. A bit ;o)
Rooms 3 and 5 are my favorite. I too plan to work on our master bedroom soon. Thanks for the inspiration.
I was with you on the deep blue room: loved how the white really popped against the dark drapes and paper, but the bed and lamps seemed out of scale with such a stately room.
Oh I loved the blue! And that huge mirror. Oh my. Such wonderful bedrooms! Mine is done in navy blue, white and red and I love the walls so dark. Makes the room so much more soothing, in my opinion.
I showed my husband the navy one because I love that color for a bedroom!! I’m contemplating it for ours!
Great ideas here!
One might say that the bedroom is the most important room of the house. These are fabulous reasons why!
I like the masculine bedroom best. It is interesting the pairing of the black and the navy blue….. also the layering of area rugs. It’s making me rethink my master bedroom reno plans!
We are just like you… the master has been the last to get done, but through girls’ room was done first. Great ideas! Thanks!
We have a large gold overmantle mirror that has been stored in our attic – our fireplace is curved and the mirror just doesn’t fit. I couldn’t bear to get rid of it, and your feature has given me just the idea I needed – it will sit behind my son’s bed, just above the headboard and reaches to within a couple of inches of the ceiling – and sits perfectly, bringing some much needed light into the room. Great idea!
Thank you.
I am SO jealous!! I ADORE overmantle mirrors!! I have been searching for one for one of our fireplaces, but they aren’t as common over here. You were so smart to hold onto it!
I am now lusting after the spa blue, white and tan room.
Love it, I would lose the pink in the first one too 😉
Can’t wait to get back into making a home!
love the romantic antique-y looking headboards…
I love the brick backdrop for that one bed, then with the foot stool complementing the bed, it really sets the scene of romance. If I had one of the squared off fabric headboards, I’d probably have crisscrossed ribbons to give me a place to tuck greeting cards or such. I see so much wasted space that could be used as a display for personal belongings . 🙂
I so look forward to reading your posts every time. Love the pictures and the colors. Very inspiring!
Aww!! Thank you, Alice! That is so nice of you to say!!
Re: the last bedroom, I don’t like the placement of the blue armless couch at the foot of the bed. In my opinion, don’t match the bench to the slipcover unless there are arms on the bench that reach up to bed height, so the overall impression is the length of the bed itself is increased. Without the arms on the bench, it just gives this stairstep look, which I find visually elongates the bed area in an awkward way. This bench should (or slipcover) should have been in a contrasting color. Does that make sense?
I loved the deep velvet color and the tufting, so it’s definitely not a slipcover. You are so right – arms would have been awesome on the bench! As it is now, the back of the bench can look like the base board of the bed…
I think I like the Parisian bedroom the best. I love that great big golden mirror but I’m not fond of having anything of any substance hanging over me while I sleep.
I’ve nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award. Collect it here: http://doctoratehousewife.com/2012/05/09/the-versatile-blogger-award/
Thank you so much!! I am very flattered!!
My pleasure. You deserve it!
Gorgeous pictures…
My favorite is the gilded mirror—they’re my favorite obsession. Sad, that even if I found one, it would never fit up my stairwell…
I avoid vivid paint shades. Because I’m boring, and because our house was already 15 neon colors (courtesy of the previous owner,) and I couldn’t take it anymore… but surprisingly, I really love the navy wall. It puts all the focus on the crown molding…
You have been nominated for the “Beatiful Blogger” & “7 x 7” Award byTrèsors De Luxe! http://tresorsdeluxe.wordpress.com/2012/05/09/the-beautiful-blogger-award-more/
Congratulations!!!

My favorites are the room with the brick wall and the green/floral room. Lovely!
It’s wonderful to see such sensitive taste. Not just “decorating” but delicate, sensitive, detailed aesthetics. Thank you so much for sharing your refined eye. Lovely.
Just incredible….beautiful work throughtout!
Agreed. The more flowers the better. I dream of a cottage garden with roses cascading over trellises and geraniums at every window.
Love these headboards!

Thank you so very much, Ann!! Needless to say as a HUGE animal lover, I adore your blog!!
Stunning pictures…as always 😉
I adore that attic structural bedroom – and greens and raspberry together = mmmm city!
Hope you’re well – Houdini
Wow, beautiful & inspiring, Kearney! Glad I checked out A Detailed House. I’ll definitely be back.
I just stopped by to check out your blog and all I can say is WOW, I now have serious bedroom envy. It’s going to take at least 6-12 months before we get to start work on any of our bedrooms, but I’ll be coming back to this post again for inspiration when we do!
Hi, popped by to say ‘Hi!’
I am so chuffed to find your blog, I am a fellow house/home lover and yours looks fantastic. I love features and details so this is perfect. Our home too is a project so found your post an inspiration. thank you. x
WOW, wow, wow, WooOOOOW! You’re my new (design) S/Hero! (female hero) everything you make is just awesome! Simply stunning 🙂
Wow, I wish I had the funding to manage a redecoration project, our condo (all rooms) could certainly use some love! Now I just need to win the lotto or stop buying clothes and purses 😉
Ahh! I remember those days!! Purses and clothes – I haven’t bought those for ME in soooooo long!!! And I mean a looonnnggg time!
I’m not even spending a large amount on my clothes, either. Very budget-aware when I’m not working (which would be now, sigh).
When I’m earning steady pay I think I’ll have to put some more love into the condo 🙂
