Call me nosy, but I love to see how celebrities live. The fashion is great, but I want to know how they live and what’s their style. They obviously have their choice of designers. What designer wouldn’t do it pro bono just for the PR.
Let’s peek in on their style….and be prepared to be surprised (or at least I was)!

How appropriate to my previous post! This is (was?) the living room of Jennifer Lopez when she was married to Mark Anthony. I’m not going to research who got the house, because it doesn’t affect my admiration of it! A pale whisper of a blue on the walls and understated elegance!

Another blue?? You see how I came to this post! This is Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor’s living room. With the ceiling painted the same color as the walls and the color brought down to the floor, it darkens the room drastically. Per my previous post, if you are going to take the furniture color to the calls and drapes, go for lighter on the floors and ceilings, unless you like the dark effect.

Sex in the City author, Candace Bushnell‘s Manhattan living room, complete with a Louis XVI sofa and painting by Caio Fonseca.True to form, there is a mini-fridge tucked into a cabinet in the corner stocked with champagne. Now why didn’t I think of that before 😉

The actress portraying the lead character in Candace’s book, Sarah Jessica Parker‘s living room in Bridgehampton, NY. Even celebrity’s know to buy smart; the Lack Parsons-style tables are by Ikea and were lacquered a glossy white!

Just like her brother, Donatella Versace‘s style is heavily ornate! Bug surprise, the sofas are from the Versace Home Collection.

Not at all what I was expecting!! Contrary to what I would imagine his living room to look like, Ralph Lauren opts for a modern approach.

Jonathan Adler’s Palm Beach Florida condo. He designed many of the pieces, like the brown, lacquered sided tables, the sofa, the kiwi green geometrical rug (love) and the throw pillows.

Exemplifying Malibu, California’s laid back style, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber‘s living rooms has the dichotomy of teak sofas upholstered in silk!

East Hamptons living room of Aerin Lauder, granddaughter to to the founder of Estée Lauder cosmetics, uses a pale lavender backdrop for the walls to showcase her Estée’s blue and white Chinese porcelain. The blue and white are repeated in the furniture and give credence to this being a summer beach house.

John Mayer’s NYC pad. I’m not a fan of the artwork and, maybe because there are too many angles, but this to me looks like an office reception area. Thoughts?

Ahh…Washington, DC. It has the perception of being a conservative town…and deservedly so. Most homes of significance go for understated, refined elegance. And like their homes, the fashion tends to follow suit. Few take fashion risks at events and if you do, you better have the confidence to be stared at!This is the living of George Stephanopoulos and actress Alexandra Wentworth. Everything is well thought out and meticulously placed. The pink ottoman? I’m sure a contrived effort to be edgy, but the color shouldn’t just be an isolated occurance, sticking out like a sore thumb! It looks like a mistake. Instead, they should at least have a pillow or two with the color.

Very bohemian and arty, which is appropriate, given that this is the living room of Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, who resides in Los Angeles with his wife Kristen. The pièce de résistance is the back wall, which displays his extensive pop art collection that contains pieces by James Rosenquist and Jasper Johns.
More coming soon! My girls are on spring break, so my days are spent with them and only have the nighttime to feed my design addiction 🙂
Loved this post:-)
it was like going on vacation without leaving my home. thank u for sharing
Some great design in some of the rooms. Why do all of them look like no one lives there? Guess we don’t want reality popping into our fantasy. I don’t mean a pile of dirty dishes in the sink shown in a photograph but don’t you want to step into the picture and mess it up just a bit?
Thanks for unearthing these photos!
Lol!! Probably because they have full time maids!
I worked with a guy who was SO anal about this office being perfect – everything had to be on a 90 degree angle, furniture and on his desk – so I would go in and “adjust” different items by 15-20 degrees, sometimes when he wasn’t there and sometimes when he was, in which case, he visibly fixated on the item that was askew. Sometimes it just looks unnatural if things are too perfect!
Loved Ben Stillers living room…who knew?
Jonathan Adler, Lindsey Buckingham and Sarah Jessica Parker: you can invite me over any time – I will accept the invitation! Those living rooms are dreamy!
Love the cobalt blue Ben Stiler went with – trés cool! Kind of pleasantly surprised at Lindsey Buckingham’s, love the wall with all the frames against the crazy couch, I think that one is my favorite. Candace Bushnell’s is where I would love to live, she hit the nail on the head with that look 🙂
The Ralph Lauren one is not his family home/ranch, totally different style is it not. Love Ben Stiller’s and SJP’s style, very welcoming. I wish I had indoor space!
I love the poictures love all the different living rooms. I liked Jennifer Lopez’s. but most of them are great.
Great post!! :]
Great article again, the pictures are wonderful
Really loved this post! It’s always interesting to see how the mega-rich live…and to be honest, I only really liked a couple of these living rooms! haha Guess it goes to show that even with loads of money to spend, a person’s style is what it is, regardless of whether or not it will be appealing to most.
Me too!! There was a point where I wondered if I should bother with the post
Jennifer Lopez’s whole house was awesome! I’ll post the pics…I did not expect it to be so subtle!
I’m looking forward to seeing that one!
I love that first picture! Its def going on my pinterest page 🙂
Reblogged this on Amy Arey, Realtor Real Estate Blog.
I just love looking at houses. PERIOD. But the Candace Bushnell living room is the one I’d like to move into. Please?
I love guilty little pleasures like this. I know I should not really care what celebs live like but it is so fun anyhow. I really like Ben Stiller’s.
Awesome post!!
My favs…JLo’s and Hillary Swank’s…
I really didn’t like Ben Stiller’s or Jonathan Adler’s (I don’t love his stuff *gasp*)
Agree with you on John Mayer’s looking like an office…hate those lamp shades!
What does that say about my design style? You should do an analysis post!!
Agreed on all the above. Add George Stephanopolous to the list of likes though.
Me too!! I’m surprised not more people commented on his…are you from DC? Maybe it’s a Washingtonian thing?
No, I’m not from DC but I’m sort of a political junkie of sorts and I think they’re an awesome couple. Bias perhaps? But I just think the aesthetic is beautiful and clean but still there is enough design so it doesn’t feel serendipitous.
Jlo’s is awesome – her whole house was! I’ll have to post! For my taste, Stiller’s was too dark and Adler is more for those who love bright color. Whatever analysis I’d have for you, would apply for me too!!
Totally not surprised that Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor’s looked the coziest and the most understated. Love the two of them, and now I know that I like their style, too. Thanks for sharing!
My fave – Ben Stillers pad. Versace – looks like that castle fortress thing in Queen of the Damned, no ? And Hilary Swank’s looks like a hotel…so cold not like a home at all to me! lol. Cool post!
I enjoyed your post. Thanks
Re: the granddaughter of the Estee Lauder family, it looks to me that the coffee table has the blue and white plates and bowls laid into the table. Now, that’s a cool idea I never saw before except for bathroom sinks or pieces meant to host a water basin. 🙂
My favourites were George Stephanopoulos and actress Alexandra Wentworth’s. Perhaps I should have gone with something a little more traditional for mine!
Great post, I love a sneaky peak into famous peoples homes. Guilty pleasures!
There you are!!! Did you read my message to you (from the black and white bathroom post, I think it was our 2nd msg back and forth) about your living room and my suggestions for it?
No. I’m on holiday and have ‘varied’ access. I’ll have a look now. Thanks.
Hm, I’d have to say the pink pouf would have to go. It’s just not clever enough!
The Ralph Lauren surprises me too. He’s usually all Southwestern-esque, but I like this one.
The Aerin Lauder one is my favorite with the blue and white. Is it just my eyes, or are those plates/bowls embedded in the coffee table? Love it whatever it is. (:^)
I “met” Aerin in the Houston Galleria Neiman’s a couple of years back. She was visiting their counter there and I spoke to her briefly. She is so pretty and sweet! Oh, and she had on the prettiest Carolina Herrera dress. (:^)
Love! I’m somewhere between Fleetwood Mac and Sarah Jessica Parker. Of all these, the rooms seem the most “real” like a person might actually dump popcorn on the sofa while watching t.v. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
great post! Jonathan Adler’s color explosion, mix of fun and classic is my favorite!
I actually ascribe to the notion of painting the ceiling the same as the walls, and it does not have to darken the room. Compare Rob Morrows ceiling wall color to Ben Stiller’s and you see a marked difference in light value. In my smallest rooms I stuck with lightest colors. In my master bedroom I went with a darker gold and in this room picked a much lighter value from the color sample swatch. This helped me to avoid that ugly ‘ceiling white’ yet still keep within the color line. I had never done this before, but it does an amazing thing… it makes the ceiling disappear instead of screaming “Look at me!” In a house with 8 foot ceilings this is a very nice effect.

Beautiful and hopefully one day
I get myself a home
All the best and Happy Easter 🙂
My house is one of those where you can kick off your shoes, curl up in front of the fire and have a good visit with a close friend. Or even a new one.
I just wanted to let you know I nominated your blog for Vernsatile log.
Thank you so much!! It’s going to be my turn to give it back 😉
Versatile Blog. Sorry Kearney my hands are bad today very shakey.
I think I like Cindy Crawford’s the best, or at least it’s the closest to my own style. I also like Lindsey Buckingham’s. You’re right. Mayer’s looks a little waiting roomish.
There are so many things I want to comment on in this post I just don’t know where to begin! I guess first off – thank you so much for stopping by and liking my blog!! Not only do I love to meet my readers, but I love to get to know your blogs! Yours is a subject that is clandestinely close to my heart!! 😉
Oh My Flipping Goodness. If I could have all day to critique these room designs … as I don’t …
I’m loving the warm colours of Lindsey Buckingham’s living rooms – maybe slightly biased by liking the music of Fleetwood Mack! 😉 I’m totally with you on John Meyer’s pad – very clinical. For some reason I can’t fathom, as it’t not like me at all, I like Hillary Swank’s place and Ben Stiller’s – even though I don’t like blue!! 😉
I. Am. Loving. Ralph Loren’s setee!!! A warmer colour and a higher back and I would so have that in my living room! 😛
Thank you!! I’m so glad to get some validation on John Mayer’s!! Clinical is a great word for it! I should have said doctor’s office waiting room!

Fun to have a chance to see inside! Thank-you for posting.
I find most of them look like rooms no one really uses and are just design statements. I have to say I like Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor’s: It actually looks like a room you’d be allowed to put your feet up, read a book, watch tv or listen to music.
Wow. These living spaces are stunning. It is very fun to take a sneak peak inside how celebrities live. I must say all these homes are just lovely!
Ben Stiller and Ralph Lauren, wow I loved their living rooms!
Ben Stiller’s seems to speak to a lot of people!
… aren’t we all “nosy” after all !
Love these Living Rooms 😀
I agree with you John Mayer’s living room looks more like a reception area to an office. And I really don’t like the art work.
I do like the colors in George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth’s living room but you are right the pink ottoman or whatever it is looks odd. Maybe it’s for a child.
We ❤ the way you've "brought us inside" these unique celebrity homes! Great blogging Kearney 🙂 XO
